IMPHAL, Nov 15 : The United Committee Manipur (UCM) has urged the Pre-sident's Rule (PR) adminis- tration to cancel preparations for the Sangai Festival  2025, calling it "insensitive" amid the crisis besetting Manipur.
UCM, in a press note issued by its information and public relations secretary Soibam Anil, questioned the PR administration's decision to host the festival.
The committee  appealed to all artistes and performers to refrain from partici- pating in the festival this year.
Why resources are being allocated to the event instead of prioritizing efforts to restore normalcy and address the State's protracted crisis, it asked. Asking what interest people would have in participating the festival when they are unable to move freely across the State, the committee expressed doubt that the festival would promote Manipur's identity, culture, and tourism under these circumstances. Stating that its units, component organisations, and subsidiary bodies are prepared to boycott the festival, UCM appealed to the people of Manipur to boycott the event collectively.
