IMPHAL, Nov 18 : MIT will face off against Manipur University (MU) while KP College will play Ng College in the semi-final matches of the Manipur University Inter College Basketball Tournament for men that began today at CYLC Basketball Court.
The tournament is hosted by Manipur College under the supervision of the Manipur University Sports Committee.
MIT, who got a first round bye, reached the semi-final with a 42-20 win over JCRE Global College today.
Sivananda Lourembam, Walter Konjenbam and Sareithan scored 12 points apiece to steer MIT to the 42-20 win today.
Thotreimiya (4 pts) and Yoihenba Khumukcham (2 pts) also contributed 6 points to MIT’s tally today as Chinglemba scored 13 points, Pritam scored 4 points and Thoungamba added 3 points to make it 20 for JCRE College.
They will play MU, who outlasted Thoubal College 43-33 in a quarterfinal clash, in the semi-final.
MU, who defeated hosts Manipur College 45-43 in the first round clash this morning, rode on leading performances from M Rajeshwar (13 pts including 3 treys) and Martin (11 points) to seal the 43-33 win against Thoubal College.
Michael (6 pts), Bikash (6 pts), Mocha (5 pts) and K Johnson (2 pts) also scored it for Manipur University in the quarterfinal victory as H Rahul scored four triples on the way to the highest 23 for Thoubal College while Y Oscar (8 pts) and N Wanglen (2 pts) contributed 10 points.
In other quarterfinal matches, KP College, who got a first round bye, outlasted UNACCO College 65-21 to set up a semi-final date with Ng College, who defeated Imphal College 55-11.
Earlier in the first round matches, UNACCO outlasted Biramangol College 26-11 as JCRE College defeated Liberal College 43-25.
The women’s competition of the tournament will commence on November 20. As many as 5 teams are taking part in the event.
