The Department of Youth Affairs & Sports (YAS) in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, organised the “Sangai Run 2025” as a prelude to the ensuing Manipur Sangai Fes- tival, 2025.
Around 1,500 athletes participated in the run held across three categories, 5 Km Fun Run, 10 Km Fitness Run and 25 Km Open & Veteran competition.
N Ashok Kumar, Commissioner, Home and Fi- nance, flagged off the event from Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, Imphal.
The programme witnessed the presence of celebrated sportspersons including Padma Shri N Kun- jarani Devi; Arjuna Awar-dee L Sarita; Padma Shri O Bembem; Olympian Ng Sonia; Dhyan Chand Awar- dee L Anita Chanu and Arjuna Awardee Chinglen-sana Kangujam.
Shailesh Kumar Chourasia, Commissioner (Power); Hungyo Worshang, Secretary, Tourism and IPR; Naorem Praveen Singh, Secretary, YAS; Lourembam Bikram, Director, Tourism; M Pradip Singh, DIG; Dr Mayengbam Veto Singh, Director, YAS and L Nabachandra Singh, Director, Fire Services attended the event.
Athletes who completed the run were felicitated and cash prizes and medals were presented to the top finishers. Medals were also distributed to all participants of the run.
The Sangai Run aims to foster enthusiasm and community participation ahead of the Manipur Sangai Festival, which is making its return to the State after a two-year hiatus, said officials.
