ANSAM comes out strongly against assault

IMPHAL, Nov 1 : Condemning the "barbaric and cowardly" assault of four Monsang Naga student leaders on the night of October 30, 2025, near Bijoypur between Kakching Lamkhai and Pallel by a group of miscreants, the All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has urged the relevant authorities to arrest the culprits and deliver justice.
ANSAM, in a statement issued, stated that the victims - Gideon Kiiri, president STS (Monsang Naga Students' Union) , Japhou village; Wanglar Phillip, general secretary STS, Japhou village; Hollyson, senior leader STS, Liwa Khullen village and Th Moni of Liwa Khullen village were brutally assaulted in an act that reeks of pure savagery and 'deliberate intent to murder.'
This is not an isolated attack but a direct assault on the sanctity of the student fraternity and the principle of peaceful coexistence, ANSAM said and extended solidarity to the Monsang Naga student leaders, pledging unwavering support and a resolute commitment to ensure justice prevails at any cost.
Stating that the despicable attack, carried out without provocation, stands as a direct assault on the sanctity, unity, and honour of the Such vile, cowardly, and shameful acts deserve nothing but the harshest condemnation from every right thinking citizen, it said.
ANSAM demanded immediate, uncompromising, and decisive action from law enforcement to hunt down the culprits and deliver justice without fear or favour, warning that any failure or delay will be viewed as complicity and negligence by the authorities.
The Sirti Upa Ruh (Monsang Tribe Union) and its affiliate KIIRI RUH have also strongly condemned the assault on the four Monsang student leaders.
A press release issued by the Monsang Tribe Union said that the four victims were returning home to Chandel when they made a brief stop near Bijoypur. Moments later, six to seven unidentified assailants arrived on an Activa scooter and an e-auto and launched an unprovoked violent attack on them, it said.
During the assault, Gedion Kiirii and T Hollyson sustained serious injuries, with Kiirii reportedly bleeding profusely from head wounds. The assailants fled soon after the attack, leaving the victims behind, the union said and added that the injured student leaders were later rushed to the PHC at Komlathabi for first aid around 10 pm.
The Union denounced the incident as a brutal and cowardly act, demanding that the State authorities and law enforcement agencies take immediate action to identify and arrest the culprits to deliver justice according to Monsang customary law.
The KIIRI RUH, on the other hand, said that the four victims were assaulted using life threatening force.
"This was not a simple brawl or an act of theft, the level of violence used clearly indicates a malicious and pre-mediated attempt to silence and inflict grievous harm tantamount to attempted murder ", it said and added that they view the attack as a direct assault on the principles of democracy, safety and freedom of expression for the entire student community in Chandel.
The association also said that the assault carried out on the cover of darkness is a grave threat to peace and must not be tolerated in any civilised society.
Demanding justice, it appreciated the law enforcers for their swift response to the crime and arresting the perpetrators who are now in the custody of police.
The association demanded that stringent actions be taken against the culprits to prevent such incidents in future.
