IMPHAL, Nov 1 : Manipur had a momentous start to the season’s third Ranji Trophy tie against Arunachal Pradesh as the opening pair of Yumnam Karnajit and Khwairakpam Ulenyai scored maiden First Class centuries to forge 211 runs and help the team post 245/1 at stumps on Day 1.
Arunachal Pradesh won the toss and opted to field first this morning at Narendra Modi Stadium Ground ‘B’, Motera, Ahmedabad.
Although the start was delayed due to inclement weather conditions, Karnajit and Ulenyai who had been raring to go carefully read the Arunachal Pradesh bowlers and tactfully completed their centuries and helped Manipur raise a total of 245/1 in the available two sessions (60 overs).
After Ulenyai was undone for 103 off 165 deliveries (17 fours) by Yorjum Sera for the first wicket in the final delivery of the 49th over, Karnajit was unbeaten on 121 off 155 balls (18 fours) with Longjam Ronald (18 not out off 40 balls; 1 four) as Manipur closed out the day on a brilliant note.
