IMPHAL, Nov 1 : State Hindi teacher of Khurai Popular High School and former Head Masters in-charge of the Konsam Thongam Primary School, Thiyam Nilamani Singh is all set to represent India at the 23rd Asia Masters Athletics Championships.
The continental event is due to be hosted by India at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai from November 5 to 9.
Thiyam Nilamani is a former National hockey player who also excels in sports disciplines including football, Thang-Ta, said president of the All Manipur Elementary School Teachers’s Association (AMESTA) in a press release.
Apart from sports, he is also a Sangeet Visharad and an AIR approved music artiste, it said.
As a teacher and a veteran athlete, he has not only participated in many National and international events but also groomed his students to excel in sports as well as music, it said.
At the ensuing 23rd Asia Masters Athletics Championships, the veteran athlete will be representing India in Hammer Throw and Discus Throw events, it said.
Expressing happiness over his selection in the National team that will also be led by Samurailatpam Thambal Sharma, secretary, Manipur Masters Athletics Association, the staff of Khurai Popular High School and AMESTA Zone II extended best wishes to Nilamani and the team India for the championships.
