Dies after keyhole surgery at RIMS

IMPHAL, Nov 1: A 57-year old woman died at RIMS Hospital ICU last night at around midnight after undergoing a keyhole surgery for removal of stones from gallbladder.
The deceased woman has been identified as Moirangthem (Ongbi) Nganbi (57) of Khangabok Awang Leikai, Thoubal.
Family members of the deceased alleged negligence on the part of doctors and others on duty.
According to the family members, Nganbi was admitted to RIMS Hospital on October 25 for treatment of stones detected in the gallbladder.
She underwent a keyhole surgery to remove the stones on October 31.
However, as her health condition deteriorated, she was admitted to the ICU but declared dead at around midnight by the doctor on duty.
Family members of the deceased alleged that doctors and other staff on duty in the hospital were negligent and did not give proper care.
They alleged that negligence on the part of doctors and staff led to the death of Nganbi.
Later, family members and the RIMS authority held a meeting.
The RIMS authority reportedly assured the aggrieved family members that an enquiry will be conducted and necessary action will be initiated if any doctor or staff is found guilty.
Following this assurance, the family claimed the dead body for the last rites.
