IMPHAL, Nov 20 : Rajya Sabha MP and titular king of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba and the Sana Konung (Royal Palace) have written to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla demanding appropriate action against IGP Themthing Ngashangva, IPS for his unruly behaviour and threats against the MP's security personnel.
According to Angom Poireiton, Angom Ningthou, Uttra Shanglen, the IGP of Manipur Police barged into the Royal Palace (the MP's residential compound) around 1.30 pm today and engaged in disorderly conduct.
At a press briefing held this evening at the Royal Palace, Imphal, he claimed that the IGP pounded on the iron gate of the Palace and barged inside.
He commanded the security personnel inside to fall in and threatened to file an FIR against them in a general display of disrespect.
According to Poreiton, the IGP also accused the Sana Konung of sponsoring today's protest staged by IDPs at Hapta Kangjeibung against the conduct of the Sangai Festival and further alleged that the protesters came out from the Palace.
Clarifying that the Sana Konung has no connection with the protest, he urged Governor Bhalla to take suitable action against the IPS officer.
It is worth adding here that Uttra Shanglen and Maisnam Shivadutta, the MP's PA/PS have also written to the Governor in this regard.
The latter's report was accompanied with photos and videos. It demanded necessary action against the IGP to restore the dignity and respect of the MP and called for the IGP's suspension in the meantime.
Poreiton strongly condemned the incident on behalf of the Royal Palace and said it happened when the RS MP was taking a short rest after returning from a program in Thoubal.
He also highlighted the significance of the Sana Konung, where the incident occurred, and stressed that it is considered a "holy place" by people.
Thus, he asserted that the IPS Officer has challenged the dignity and sanctity of the Royal Palace and urged the Governor to take action swiftly.
