Cooperative Week
IMPHAL, Nov 20: The closing function of the 72nd Cooperative Week was held today at the Institute of Cooperative Management, Lamphelpat.
The closing function was jointly organised by ICM, Registrar of Cooperative Society, Manipur and the Manipur State Cooperative Union under the theme “Cooperative as vehicle for Atmanirbhar Bharat”.
Speaking at the function, ICM Director Kh Ramanando said that only the cooperative can revive the sick economy of Manipur.
Cooperative sector, being largely based in rural areas, is the most effective means of realising rural development, he said.
He said that the cooperative movement in Manipur is still not vibrant enough as compared to other developed States of India.
Out of around 11,000 cooperative societies/institutions registered in the State, almost half of them are inactive, the ICM Director said.
He said that the State-level Cooperative Week celebration was opened at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Konung Lampak on November 14.
After several events were held at Bishnupur, Chandel, Imphal East, Kamjong and Thoubal as parts of the Cooperative Week celebration, the closing function was held at Lamphelpat today, he said.
Prizes for best cooperator, best cooperative management and best cooperative were also distributed at the function.
CAU Imphal, Food Technology Dean Dr Ng Iboyaima, Cooperative Societies Registrar W Ibohal, MSCU president L Tompishak, Tribhuvan Sahakari University, Gujarat board member Jeena Potsangbam, MSCB Limited president P Ranjit, Manipur Women’s Cooperative Bank Ltd chairperson K Manorama, IUCB Ltd president Y Kumar and MSCU managing body member Sh Hemanta were also present at the closing function.
