IMPHAL, Nov 21 : Manipur drubbed Chhattisgarh 4-0 this evening for the second Group C victory in the Dr Talimeren Ao Junior Girls’ National Football Championship Tier I being underway at RDT Stadium, Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh.
Manipur, who won 3-1 against Gujarat in the previous match, carried forward their form and raced to a 2-0 first half lead before pumping in two more goals in the second half to seal the 4-0 win and inch closer to the semi-final round.
Chingkhamayum Redima put Manipur ahead just two minutes into the game before Laitonjam Linthoi Chanu doubled the advantage in the 38th minute.
After the restart, Chhattisgarh concentrated more in defence but their defence wore down towards the end and it was Irom Priyadashini, who subbed in for Laitonjam Linthoi, made it 3-0 with a clinical finish.
Ereena Laishram, who also came off the bench after 84 minutes, then hit the final nail into the coffin three minutes into the stoppage time (90+3’) to seal the comprehensive 4-0 win.
With the result, Manipur go atop group table as Gujarat defeated Karnataka by 2-0 goals earlier in the day.
Manipur will play Karnataka in the crucial match that will decide the group winners.
