Man shoots uncle to death, kills self later

IMPHAL, Nov 21: Retired MPS officer Akoijam Shantikumar succumbed to bullet injuries after battling for life at Raj Medicity ICU today at around 1.50 pm after he was shot by his own nephew at around noon today.
Shantikumar was shot by his nephew AK Kishan in his own room on the first floor of his house at Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai.
AK Kishan pumped in six bullets on the chest of his uncle.
Shantikumar was rushed to Raj Medicity for treatment in critical conditions.
Soon after shooting his uncle, Akoijam Kishan (25) s/o AK Sunil of Thoubal Wangmataba, presently staying at the residence of Shantikumar went to the second floor of the building and shot himself to death.
AK Kishan is stated to have been adopted and looked after by the deceased retired MPS officer.
After battling for life, Shantikumar succumbed to bullet injuries at Raj Medicity ICU at around 1.50 pm.
The dead body has been deposited at RIMS morgue and post mortem will be conducted tomorrow morning.
On the other hand, soon after the incident, a team of Imphal West district Police led by SP Ksh Shivakanta rushed to the spot and looked after the situation.
The area was cordoned off by a police team until a team of State Forensic Science experts conducted  an inquest of the dead body of the accused and its surrounding areas.
After the inquest, the dead body of the accused has also been deposited at RIMS morgue for post mortem
Meanwhile, a case has been registered at Singjamei police station regarding the incident and police have recovered one arm used by the accused in committing the crime from the spot.
