Poppy destroyed

CHANDEL, Nov 22: Around 50 acres of illicit poppy cultivation at Gabok hill range located about 20 Kms East of Chakpikarong police station under Khengjoi sub-division, Chandel district was destroyed by a combined security team led by Chandel district police today. 
According to the police, the operation was carried out under overall supervision of Chandel SP Dharmendra Kumar.
The operation was led by TS Chamna Anal, Additional SP (Ops), Chandel and assisted by OC Chakpikarong PS Inspector Joy Martin and his team.
Altogether 120 personnel from Chandel police station, Reserve Line, Chandel,  8 MR, 17 & 43 AR, BSF E/200 Coy, Forest Department, NCB and NAB including SDM Khengjoi were involved in destroying the illicit poppy cultivation at Gabok.  
This could have produced approximately 250 Kgs of opium worth Rs 1.75 crore, Chandel district police said.
Some poppy pods and poppy seeds were recovered from the site while four temporary huts were also burnt down.
No one was present at the cultivation site and no one came forward to claim ownership. Nonetheless, a case has been registered at Chakpikarong police station, Chandel district police said. Security forces also destroyed 15 acres of poppy plantation at the interior location of Loibol Khullen under New Keithelmanbi police station in Kangpokpi district today, said a bulletin issued by police control room today. During the operation, a hut, a sack of salt and other cultivation equipment found at the plantation site were also destroyed.
On November 20, security forces had destroyed seven acres of poppy plantation at Thengjang and Lasan areas under Tamei police station in Tamenglong.
