Mayai Lambi closed, again

IMPHAL, Nov 22: Enraged by the highly dilapidated condition of Mayai Lambi and the Government’s failure to repair it despite repeated assurances, the key road has been closed indefinitely from today.
The Mayai Lambi Apunba Lup closed the road protesting the Government’s failure to repair/construct the road even after repeated appeals and reminders.
Supporting the call of the Mayai Lambi Apunba Lup, a large number of people came out and blocked the road at different points including Mongsangei, Lang- thabal and Thongkhong Luxmi Bazar.
With the exception of water supply, emergency and medical services, no movement was allowed on the road.
On learning about the agitation, PWD officials came and talked with the protesters but the two sides could not strike any agreement. Some protesters said that they staged similar protest against the Government’s failure to repair/construct the highly dilapidated road earlier too.
At that time, the Imphal West Deputy Commissioner came and assured that the road would be repaired to the maximum possible level before the Ningol Chakkouba festival.
But the DC’s assurance has not been translated into action till date. This compelled the Mayai Lambi Apunba Lup to close the road indefinitely from today, they said.
They added that they will close the road until PWD starts repairing/constructing the road.
