Dr Lorho Pfoze named NPP State prez

IMPHAL, Nov 22: Ex-MP (Outer Manipur) Dr Lorho S Pfoze who joined National People’s Party (NPP) a few months back has been appointed president of the party’s State unit.
NPP National president and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma issued a notification to this effect today.  
MLAs Sheikh Noorul Hassan, Thongam Shanti and Janghemlung Panmei have been appointed working presidents of NPP Manipur unit.
The same notification has appointed MLA Khuraijam Loken  as the party’s chief whip.
A copy of the order whereby Khuraijam Loken was appointed the NPP Manipur’s chief whip has also been forwarded to Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Th Satyabrata.
Meanwhile, sources said that many NPP leaders and former office bearers including some MLAs are not happy with the appointment of Dr Lorho S Pfoze as the president of the party’s State unit.
Former NPP office bearers and the party’s leaders who are not happy with Conrad Sangma’s notification are likely to hold a meeting and take a decision shortly.
With seven MLAs, NPP was the second largest party after BJP in the current 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly.
The party has now six MLAs following the demise   of N Kayisii (Tadubi AC). The six NPP MLAs are Sheikh Noorul Hassan (Kshetrigao AC), Khuraijam Loken (Wangoi AC), Irengbam Nalini (Oinam AC), Thongam Shanti (Moirang AC), Mayanglambam Rameshwar (Kakching AC) and Janghemlung Panmei (Tamenglong AC).      On the other hand, some other former office bearers  have welcomed the appointment of Dr Lorho S Pfoze as NPP Manipur unit president.
They said that Dr Lorho’s appointment to the top post would strengthen the party ahead of the next State Assembly election which is due in 2027.
