Cooch Behar Trophy Meghalaya trail by 283 runs at stumps on Day 1 after Md Ali Karim’s 137 guides Manipur to 307

IMPHAL, Nov 23 : Md Ali Karim who came in at number 5 anchored with a 196-ball 137 to guide Manipur to the first innings total of 307 runs in their second Cooch Behar Trophy Plate Group match against Meghalaya at Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium, Anand.
Meghalaya were 24/2 at stumps to trail Manipur, who won the toss and opted to bat first this morning, by 283 runs.
Electing to bat first, Manipur, who notched up a commanding 232 run victory against Arunachal Pradesh in the Plate Group league opener, had a shaky start and were reduced to 48/4 within 16.4 overs before Ali Karim came out and resurrected the innings.
Manipur lost captain W Max on 6 for the first wicket before Lucky was trapped lbw by M Kharpuri, Rain was dismissed for 11 by Ak Lohar and U Rain got run out on 11 in succession.
Ali Karim, however, forged a 38-run partnership off 51 balls with Danish (17) who was dismissed by Angkit for the fifth wicket in the first delivery of the 26th over before he completed his haul of three wickets by removing incoming Irunbam Tonton on a 5-ball duck in the same over.
From 86/6, Ali Karim found a good partnership in Zamir and forged 41 runs together before M Kharpuri undone Zamir on 20 for the 7th wicket.
Manipur further slipped to 143/8 as Naesh holed out to Ankit off the bowling of GR Ray in the 37th over Ali Karim and Yumnam Chingkhei Nganba gathered 49 runs off 93 balls before Chingkhei Nganba was undone on 19 as the scoreboard read 192/9.
Ali Karim held on to complete his half century and century with Saikhom Saikhom and registered 115-run partnership off 184 balls for the last wicket until Ali Karim’s big attempt ended up in the safe hands of  GR Ray off the bowling of Angkit.
Kaiku was unbeaten on 42 off 88 balls on the back of 5 boundaries.
Angkit returned with the bowling figures of 4/41 in 11 overs as M Kharpuri (2/67), and AK Lohar (2/55) returned with two wickets apiece and GR Ray claimed one.
Meghalaya were 24/2 as MD Danish Khan removed B Chetri on 4 for the first wicket in the fifth delivery of the first over before S Kaiku removed A Marak on 4 for the second wicket in the 1st delivery of the 6th over.
