The upgraded VJ Doungal Lentol Playground at Saihenjang village in Churachandpur district was inaugurated yesterday under Operation Sadbhavana by the Red Shield Division of the Indian Army.
The project aims to promote sports, youth engagement, and healthy community activities through improved infrastructure and accessible recreational space, said a PIB Defence Wing in a press release.
The playground has been significantly enhanced with upgraded football and volleyball courts, modern lighting systems, proper boundary fencing, ground levelling, and the creation of a multi-sport training area suitable for both regular practice and organized events, it said.
These improvements addressed a long-standing need for a well-developed sports facility in the village. The initiative was executed in close collaboration between the Indian Army and the local community, it said.
Villagers, youth representatives, and local clubs actively contributed to planning and layout decisions, ensuring that the upgraded facility meets community aspirations, it said.
Residents expressed their appreciation, noting that the improved ground will encourage greater youth participation, foster discipline, and support positive and healthy engagements, it said.
With its improved infrastructure, the facility will help nurture young sporting talent while also strengthening community bonds and promoting a spirit of unity across Saihenjang and neighbouring villages, it continued.
