IMPHAL, Nov 25 : Manipur rode on Yumnam Chingkhei Nganba’s match haul of 11 wickets to crush Meghalaya by 228 runs within three days for the second straight win in the Cooch Behar Trophy Plate Group competition at Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium, Anand.
Manipur, who resumed their second innings at 192/9 this morning, were dismissed for 197 in the 61st over after S Kaiku completed his half century (52 off 69 balls; 10 fours). M Kharpuri returned with the best bowling figures of 5/83 in this innings for Meghalaya as RS Rathor finished with 2/16.
Having erected 307 runs in the first innings courtesy of Md Ali Karim’s 137 off 196 balls (19 fours) and Saikhom Kaiku’s 88-ball 42 not out, Manipur gave Meghalaya, who were bundled out for the first innings total of 133 runs, a target of 372 runs.
Resuming the day, Meghalaya batters faltered yet again in the face of Yumnam Chingkhei Nganba’s fierce bowling and were dismissed for 143 runs within 51.2 over.
G Narleng 37 off 35 balls, D Nandi 26 off 76 balls, RS Rathor 22 off 30 balls, and H Ryngkhlem 20 off 31 balls emerged Meghalaya’s leading run scorer in the second innings that saw Yumnam Chingkhei Nganba, who enjoyed a haul of 6 wickets (6/36 in 8.2 overs) earlier in the first innings, shone yet again to collect five more scalps (5/37 in 11.2 overs that include 3 maidens) to set up the Meghalaya collapse.
Md Danish Khan (2/21), Urikhinbam Rain (2/28), and Saikhom Kaiku (1/21) meanwhile shared the other 5 wickets to make things hard for Meghalaya.
Notably, Manipur had registered a 232-run victory against Arunachal Pradesh in the opening match of the tournament.
Mizoram will host Manipur in the next match at the same venue from December 1.
