IMPHAL, Nov 25: Meira Paibis have categorically stated that no boat race should be organised as a part of the Manipur Sangai Festival 2025 on Wangkhei Thangapat.
A sit-in-protest jointly organised by local clubs and Meira Paibis of Palace Compound and adjoining areas was held today at Wangkhei Thangapat Brahmapur.
Speaking to media persons by the sideline of the protest demonstration, Brahmapur Thangapat Mapan Nupi Meira Paibi Lup president Sanasam Sorojini said that the Government authorities have been preparing for a boat race as a part of the ongoing Sangai Festival at Wangkhei Thangapat on November 29.
She said that they were staging the protest demonstration to send a loud and clear message that they strongly oppose the boat race.
Even if the Government holds the boat race forcibly, no one living at Wangkhei, Palace Compound and adjoining areas should join or watch the boat race, she said.
The people have already taken a decision that anyone found going to and watching the boat race would be banished from the localities, Sorojini said.
People living around Thangapat do not support Manipur Sangai Festival 2025 but stand in solidarity with the IDPs and the CSOs, she added.
