IMPHAL, Nov 25 : The 3rd Governor’s Cup Boxing Championships 2025 organised by the Manipur Amateur Boxing Association at Khuman Lampak Boxing Arena kicked off today.
The opening match of the championships saw the completion of the semi-final line up for various weight categories of the U-15 age group.
Laishram Punshiba of NSA boxed his way to the semi-finals in the 61 kg category competition with a 3-2 split decision win over PBA’s Thongam Jackson.
Shangmei Khayi of SRBA emerged victorious over MBA’s Khullakpam Arshad Khan who ceded the game to his opponent in another 61 kg category quarterfinal bout as Thongam Depankar of NBA got a walkover win against W Khumanlakpam Meitei.
In U-15 boys’ 58 kg category quarterfinal bouts staged today, Ningthoujam Khengba of MKBA got a walkover win against PBA’s Leitanthem Langonba before MBA’s RK Athoisana won 5-0 against W Malemthoina and Khundom Robert of NSA won 5-0 against SRBA’s W Prithibiraj.
In the 55 kg category quarterfinal bouts, W Mesh of MKBA sealed an RSC win over PKBA’s Chabungbam Poirel , Laishram Yuhenba of SRBA outlasted Oinam Korounganba of MSBA 5-0, NSA’s Khwairakpam Nelson outlasted Chingakham Reynil of SAI Imphal 5-0 and PBA’s Sapam Mayolsana edged out UYDC’s S Ghanshyam.
Meanwhile in the 52 kg category quarterfinal bouts, MKBA’s Nahakpam Lamnganba overwhelmed SAI Imphal’s Leimapokpam Bikash 5-0, Thangjam Jerison of NSA prevailed 5-0 over PKBA’s Ningthoujam Adish, Waikhom Sunit of UYDC edged out Saikhom Rojit of SBA 3-2 and Sagolshem Korounganba edged out W Wakheiba of SBRA 3-2.
