Assault condemned

IMPHAL, Nov 25 : The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) Students' Front has strongly condemned the use of excessive force on protesting IDPs and the firing of tear gas shells at a school bus and health centre by security forces yesterday.
The clash with security forces occurred when IDPs of Dolaithabi, Ekou, Sadu Yengkhuman took out a protest march in a bid to return home to their villages. Four IDPs were injured in the altercation, including a student.
In a press release, the Front has demanded the department concerned to take action against the security personnel responsible for the use of such excessive and brutal force.
The Front expressed bewilderment over the actions of the PR Government which prioritized the conduct of the Sangai Festival over working to alleviate the people's suffering.
Considering the sentiment of the public and the IDPs, the Front maintained that it would be best to wrap up the festival and reroute the Government's efforts on resettling the displaced folks to their homes.
