IMPHAL, Nov 26 : Continuing its commitment to Constitutional values, the Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) observed Constitution Day of India at its office in Palace Compound, Imphal East today.
Additionally, on November 25, the Commission observed the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women with an aim to raise awareness on gender-based violence and to reaffirm society’s collective responsibility in combating discrimination and injustice against women, said a statement.
As part of today's observance ceremony, H Rosita, Secretary MHRC, led the Commission’s officials, staff, and invited guests in reading the Preamble of the Constitution of India.
The pledge ceremony reaffirmed the Commission’s dedication to upholding justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity- the foundational principles enshrined in the Constitution.
The MHRC Secretary also graced yesterday's observance of International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women as the chief guest.
In her address, H Rosita highlighted the widespread and often normalized forms of gender-based discrimination faced by women in homes, workplaces, public institutions, and in society at large. She stressed that violence against women is not merely a women’s issue but a grave human rights concern that demands the active participation of every individual, community, and institution.
Calling for a strengthened culture of respect, equality, and accountability, she urged all stakeholders to work collectively toward creating a safe and dignified environment for women and girls in Manipur.
The two-day observance reflected MHRC’s broader mission of promoting human rights awareness, empowering citizens, and strengthening democratic values in Manipur.
