IMPHAL, Nov 27 : Manipur returned to winning ways in the U23 Women’s T20 Trophy Plate Group as they beat Mizoram by 41-runs for the second win today at Police Training Academy Ground, Agartala.
Notably, Manipur opened their campaign with a 34-run victory against Arunachal Pradesh before going down by 19-runs to Meghalaya in the second match.
Riding on Lourembam Prena’s 54-ball 55 (6 fours and 1 six), Manipur, who won the toss and elected to bat first, posted a total of 113 runs for the loss of 7 wickets before Barkatun Khanam picked five wickets to throttle the Mizoram chase and restricted them to 72/9.
Khumbongmayum Bidyarani 11 off 13 also managed a double digit score for Manipur in the first innings as Haorungbam Kiranbala 9 and Naoroibam Sophiya 2 remained unbeaten for the 8th wicket.
Nunmawii (3/18 in 4 overs) and Margareth (2/26 in 4 overs) shared 5 wickets in this innings as Zdi picked one.
In reply, Mizoram started on a shaky note with H Kiranbala, Th Mangalsana and N Sophiya reducing them to 21/3 in 6.1 overs before Barkatun ran riot to break the backbone of the line up.
Barkatun had his first wicket in the form of Saii for the fourth wicket in the second delivery of the 12th over.
She bowled out Riindiki on 4 for the fifth wicket in the 3rd delivery of the 14th over before setting up Sawmtluangi run out on the highest 24 for the 6th wicket in the final delivery of the over.
Barkatun then bamboozled Nunmawii 4 and Margaret 0 in the fourth and the final delivery of the 16th over to further reduce Mizoram to 63/8 before completing her fifer by trapping Zdi lbw on 2 for the 9th wicket.
Zothan Sangi 13 and Saron 1 were batting as they folded up the innings at 72.
Barkatun eventually returned with the best bowling figures of 5/8 in her spell of 4 overs.
Manipur will play Pondicherry in the next match on November 29.
