Man convicted for sexual assault

Convict Bisembor @ Suresh Meitei, s/o K Ranjit Meitei of Nongdam Maning Leikai, Imphal East has been found guilty under Section 417 IPC read with Section 6 of the POCSO Act, 2012.
The Court has fixed November 29, 2025, for sentence hearing.
The case dates back to October 12, 2019, when the mother of the minor victim lodged a police complaint, stating that the convict had lured her daughter and the child’s friend to a house under construction.
There, he made the friend stand watch at the window and sexually assaulted the victim.
Following the complaint, a team of Imphal East women police arrested the convict on October 14, 2019, at around 5.10 pm from Langol area near Shija Hospital.
During the trial, the prosecution examined 12 witnesses, marked 16 documentary exhibits and five material objects.
Defence counsel contended that the investigation was faulty and the prosecution failed to prove the case, urging the Court to give the accused the benefit of doubt.
After hearing both sides and carefully examining the evidence, the Court held that the prosecution successfully established the charges and convicted Khaidem Bisembor under Section 417 IPC read with Section 6 of the POCSO Act, 2012.
Sentence hearing will take place tomorrow.
