IMPHAL, Nov 27 : The Socialist Students' Union of Manipur (SSUM) has condemned the abrupt removal of the Board of Secondary Education of Manipur Chairman without any prior notice or reason via an order issued on November 21.
A press release issued by Salam Inaoyaima Singh, publicity and information secretary, SSUM, condemned the move as a gross violation of norms and procedure, stating that autonomous bodies require at least 3 months advance notice for such action, which was allegedly ignored in this case.
Immediately after the removal, additional charge of the Board Chairman was handed to the Director of Education (S) while Deputy Director Geetchandra was posted as Secretary (in-charge), reducing both posts to temporary arrangements, said SSUM.
It described the development as "highly irregular" and a serious blow to the autonomy of the Board, warning that one person holding charge of two key offices simultaneously could hamper academic and examination-related decisions.
No official statement has been issued by the Education Department so far.
The Union has demanded an immediate explanation from the department and restoration of the Board's autonomy, warning that such arbitrary moves will erode trust in Manipur's secondary education system.
