Family claims body

THOUBAL, Nov 27: The body of Sarina Singamayum, daughter of Mina Bibi of Yairipok Singa and a Class XI Science student of Fancier Higher Secondary School, who was fatally run over by a police bus transporting security personnel for the Sangai Festival, was claimed today by her family following a resolution reached with authorities.
According to reports, the family agreed to receive the body after authorities assured several measures, including the provision of ex-gratia to the bereaved family, coverage of medical expenses for other injured students, suspension of the driver involved, and action against five police personnel and traffic staff who allegedly neglected their duties at the accident site.
Authorities also agreed to improve traffic management and manpower deployment at the location and to provide suitable employment to the family of the deceased.
Meanwhile, students of Fancier Higher Secondary School gathered along National Highway-102, opposite the Fire Service Office in Thoubal today, to pay their last respects as Sarina's body arrived from the morgue.
The students offered prayers for her soul and expressed grief over the sudden loss of their schoolmate.
