VA seeks clarification

The New Chayang Village Authority, Chandel district has expressed deep concern and confusion over a recent media report dated October 31, 2025, which claimed that a joint team of Assam Rifles and Kakching Police Commandos had recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from the village area.
According to the report, the recovered items allegedly included one INSAS Light Machine Gun, a 12-bore rifle, a single-barrel bolt-action rifle, twenty rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, three hand grenades, arming devices for 36 grenades, one 51mm illumination para bomb, thirteen empty cases, and other tactical stores.
In a press statement issued by the Village Authority, chairman SM Bunshon stated that the villagers were “shocked and confused” by the news, as no such operation or recovery had been communicated to them.
The statement further clarified that the villagers had no knowledge of any such sophisticated weapons being present in the area and were not informed in advance about any search operation.
The Village Authority pointed out that, as per established law and protocols, local authorities or the village chief should be informed prior to the conduct of any search or security operation. In this case, however, the villagers learned about the alleged recovery only through newspaper reports.
The statement concluded with an appeal to the concerned authorities to clarify the matter and provide accurate information, urging for transparency and cooperation to avoid misunderstanding and to maintain public trust.
