As many as five women footballers of Youth Welfare Club, Thambalkhong, who contributed in India’s qualification to the AFC U17 Women's Asian Cup China 2026 and AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup Thailand 2026, were accorded a warm reception by the club today.
As per a press release issued by the club, U20 stars- Kayenpaibam Anju Chanu and Nameirakpam Arina, and U17 stars- Tonanbam Taniya, Huidrom Joyshiniu and Konjengbam Tampha Devi were feted with simple gifts in the solemn function that was held Kumngaipat Sports Complex in the presence of club functionaries, local football lovers and guardians of the players. Speaking at the event, WYC-Th president Sarangthem Ranjit extolled coach Wangkheirakpam Tomba, who is also known as Golden Tomba, for his role in grooming and guiding the women footballers of the club to the international level.
Highlighting club’s initiatives including free school facilities for the club players, Ranjit also said the door of the club is always wide open to young girls who desire to join the club.
