IMPHAL, Nov 2: IDPs who have been taking shelter in Government quarters at Langol Games Village have decried the eviction order issued by the Government.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, one Sorokhaibam Aparna from Moreh, speaking on behalf of the IDPs, urged the Government to resettle them at their homes if they must be evicted from the vacant Government quarters.
Aparna said that the DGP issued an order on September 18 this year asking one IDP family staying in Government quarters at Langol Games village to vacate the quarters within 10 days.
Subsequently, the Government carried out a survey checking IDPs who have been staying at Langol Games Village from Zone I to Zone IV.
It was an attempt to force the IDPs to vacate the Government quarters but this is unacceptable, she said.
She asserted that they must be first resettled at their homes with foolproof security arrangements if they must vacate the Government quarters.
Aparna pointed out that the IDPs have been facing extreme misery with all their sources of livelihood uprooted.
The IDPs have no intention to stay in the Government quarters but they are compelled by the protracted crisis to take refuge in the vacant quarters, she said.
It is a matter of grave concern that the Government, instead of showing any sympathy to the displaced families, have been multiplying their woes, she said.
Many displaced people from Churachandpur, Moreh, Koutruk, Kwatha, Napat, Torbung Bangla etc were also present at the press meet.
