IDPs against Sangai Fest

IMPHAL, Nov 3: Internally displaced persons of Torbung area have also come out against the State organising the Manipur Sangai Festival.
In a statement, the Torbung Gram Panchayat Victim Committee said the State should not celebrate the Sangai Festival until internally displaced persons languishing in relief camps are allowed to return to their original villages and homes.
Since May 2023, IDPs have been suffering in relief camps. Despite assurances, the Government is yet to provide adequate compensation, relief and rehabi- litation, it said.
Organising the festival when IDPs are suffering in relief camps is unacceptable. The Government may organise the festival after the IDPs are provided proper compensation and allowed to return to their original villages, said the committee.
