7th Kiwifruit Festival concludes

Senapati, Nov 30: The 7th Manipur State Level Kiwifruit Festival concluded on Saturday at Oinam Hill Village, bringing together growers, officials and stakeholders to focus on improving cultivation, marketing and value chains for organic kiwifruit in the hill districts.
Organised by the Senapati Producers Organisation Of Organic Kiwi Fruit (SPOOOK), the festival was sponsored by the North Eastern Council (NEC), under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Government of India, through the Planning Department, Government of Manipur.
Key implementation partners included the Eastern Border Areas Development Authority (EBADA), Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA), the Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Government of Manipur, and the Tourism Department, Government of Manipur.
The concluding day featured a technical session on branding and marketing led by Abel Daikho, Agriculture Officer, Regional Progeny Farm, Maram.
Daikho highlighted strategies for creating a strong market identity for kiwifruit from the region, focusing on packaging, labelling, brand positioning and avenues for linkages with buyers and retailers.
A practical demonstration and hands-on training on nursery management and propagation techniques for kiwifruit was delivered by VD Napoleon Pou, Deputy Director of Agriculture (SC), Regional Potato Farm, Mao. The session covered seedling production, grafting and propagation methods aimed at improving plant health and increasing orchard productivity for small and marginal growers.
Organisers said the festival aimed to strengthen local capacity in both production and post-harvest processes, while boosting the prospects for organic kiwifruit as a viable livelihood option in Senapati and neighbouring hill areas.
The event also served as a platform for interaction among producers, government agencies and development bodies involved in horticulture and rural development. Organisers reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing training and support to translate the knowledge shared during the festival into on-farm improvements and better market outcomes for growers.
