‘We don't want our names listed in Kpi, Saitu, Henglep ACs’

IMPHAL, Nov 3 : In a significant development, a public consultative meeting of Aimol, Chiru, Kharam and Rongmei people held on November 1 at Bungte Chiru village under 51 Saitu (ST) AC, Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi has resolved to pay Hills House Tax at Noney (Longmai) District Administration instead of Kangpokpi and Churachandpur District Administration.
Notably, the meeting also adopted a declaration to submit a representation to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Manipur to process the deletion of names of voters of Aimol, Chiru, Kharam and Rongmei people from the electoral roll of 51-Saitu and 57-Henglep (ST) Assembly Constituencies under Kangpokpi and Churachandpur district and to include them in the electoral roll of 54-Nungba (ST) Assembly Constituency under Noney (Longmai) district.
The meeting was organised by the Inter District Boundaries Re-Organisation Demand Committee for Administrative Convenience (IDBRDCAC) to discuss the issue of decades-old and long-pending amalgamation demand of villages belonging to Aimol, Chiru, Kharam and Rongmei tribes into Noney (Longmai) district (under erstwhile Tamenglong district), Manipur for administrative convenience and justice, as per a statement issued by convenor Th Pamei and secretary Galanchung Kamei, IDBRDCAC.
Other declarations adopted at the meeting include meeting the Manipur Governor and endorsing the Committee to take up democratic forms of demonstration or public rally, protest and agitation in collaboration with the people, filing of case (s) in the law court and any other steps deemed fit.
The meeting was attended by president/vice-president of the tribes and  colleagues of Aimol, Chiru, Kharam and Rongmei people along with their respective tribe members, village chiefs and chairmen, village authority members, social leaders, intellectuals, scholars and concerned citizens.
