27th Sub-Junior National Fencing Championship underway in Imphal

IMPHAL, Nov 3 : The 27th edition of Sub-Junior National Fencing Championship kickstarted today at Indoor Hall of the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex. The championship hosted by Manipur Fencing Association under the auspices of the Fencing Association of India has brought together as many as 300 fencers from across 22 States who will compete for top honours in various events.
The championship was formally opened in the presence of Thokchom Satyabrata, Speaker Manipur Legislative Assembly; Naorem Praveen, Secretary, YAS; Rajeev Mehta, general secretary, Fencing Association of India; and Salam Pradeepkumar Singh, president Manipur Fencing Association as presidium members.
Speaking at the occasion, Rajeev Mehta praised Manipur as one of the powerhouses of fencing in the country.
Manipur may be chosen as a host for fencing discipline in the upcoming National Games but the matter will be finalised after a thorough scrutiny since the discipline involves advance equipment and set up, he said.
Naorem Praveen, meanwhile, lauded the growing popularity of Fencing in the State as well as the State fencers’ grit and determination. He also maintained that proposals have been made to augment the fencing equipment and resources and the same will be realised very soon.
