IMPHAL, Nov 4: Displaced people of Torbung Bangla and Torbung Waikhurok have asked the authorities concerned to grant them the benefit of housing scheme, Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY) and other schemes after they are resettled at their native villages.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press club here today, Torbung Bangla, Torbung Waikhurok Victims Committee secretary Loitongbam Surchand said that Torbung Bangla and Torbung Waikhurok, located in foothill area around 5 Kms away from Torbung proper, were the first victims of the Kuki aggression.
Torbung Bangla and Torbung Waikhurok have around 235 households and  there are more than five villages of hill people around the two Meitei villages, he said.
These hill villages not only remain intact but they are expanding without any restriction, Surchand said.
Saying that they have been asked by the BDO concerned to submit Aadhaar and bank details to avail the benefits of PMAY, Surchand questioned how they could construct houses when they are unable to go back to their native villages.
Even if the Government sanctions the PMAY scheme  and the first instalment is released through DBT, the IDPs of Torbung Bangla and Torbung Waikhurok would not be able to construct any house as they are staying away from their villages.
Instead of building a house, the money would be spent on other requirements. In such a scenario, no second instalment would be released and the relief assistance entitled to them as IDPs would be cancelled, he said.
He then appealed to the authority concerned to grant them the benefits of housing and other schemes after they resettled at their homes.
As of now, the villagers have decided not to submit any document to the BDO for the PMAY scheme, he added.
