Ukhrul, Nov 6: About 30 students of KTL Excel Higher Secondary School, Ukhrul, reportedly fell ill on Thursday after eating a maize-based snack sold near the school, sources said.
Several students vomited and complained of uneasiness shortly after consuming the item, identified as “Mouli.” The packaging has manufacturing date of 30-10-25 and expiration 29-01-26.
According to a complaint filed by one vendor Donald Kashung of Phungreitang East, the snacks had been purchased from a local shop, Variety Dukan, at Viewland Bazar on November 5. The product, carrying FSSAI number 103240200002070, was manufactured by Global Trade Link Pvt. Ltd., Guwahati.
In his letter to the Officer-in-Charge, Ukhrul Police Station, Kashung said he was unaware of any defect or contamination in the product and expressed concern that other children might also be at risk if the same batch was sold elsewhere. He urged the police to investigate and take preventive measures.
School administrations and parents quickly attended to the affected students, and some were taken to the hospital. All are said to be recovering.
Meanwhile, a similar food poisoning incident was reported at St. Anthony’s School, Taphou, Senapati, where around 30 students also fell ill after eating a packaged snack earlier in the day. The school principal said the product was suspected to have come from Moreh, a small township in Tengnoupal District of Manipur, and has advised parents to check their children’s food items.
