ZUF destroys poppy fields

IMPHAL, Nov 7 : The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) has intensified its defensive campaign to safeguard the ancestral land of the Zeliangrong and Inpui people from Kuki illegal immigrants engaged in poppy cultivation, the outfit said in a statement issued by Franky Gonmei (Ministry of Information and Publicity).
The Front said it carried out its second wave of operation today around 1 pm, burning several poppy farms and farmhouses in the ongoing fight against the drug menace.
The outfit, however, didn't share the locations where the poppy farms were destroyed.
Earlier on November 1, the ZUF had already destroyed numerous poppy fields, huts, and vehicles at Waphong in Kangpokpi, it added.
Saying that the poppy cultivators continue to defy their repeated warnings, the Front asserted that they will not spare anyone found 'in or around drug fields'.
