CHANDEL, Nov 8: The ICAR Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Chandel, organized a Field Day on the rice variety RC-Maniphou-16 under the Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) at Chandel Christian village, Chandel.
The programme aimed to educate farmers on the benefits of integrated nutrient management practices to enhance both productivity and profitability of the newly released rice variety.
Dr Khumlo Levish, SMS (Agronomy) of ICAR-KVK Chandel, highlighted the superior performance of RC-Maniphou-16, created by the ICAR Research Complex in NEH Region, Manipur Centre.
She explained that the semi-dwarf, medium-duration type of variety with the potential of yielding 7-8 t/ha with correct management is resistant to leaf and neck blast diseases and has a low quantity of amylase thus softening the cooking quality preferred by local consumers.
As part of addressing the farmers, Dr A Ameeta Devi, Senior Scientist and Head, ICAR-KVK Chandel, called on farmers to embrace the use of INM and reduce dependency on chemical fertilisers to ensure sustainable crop production.
She lauded the farmers' dedication and contribution to the agriculture sector.
The session also featured interactions with experts including Ts Leenda Monsang, SMS (Plant Breeding) and Ps Lavid Anal, SMS (Horticulture), and other staff of ICAR-KVK Chandel.
The programme concluded with a field visit where the technology has been conducted with the distribution of field pea and rabi vegetable seeds to 45 farmers.
