“Martyrs’ Day”

IMPHAL, Nov 8: A solemn function of offering tributes to the three martyrs killed in a battle with security forces at Kameng Leimarok, Imphal West on November 12, 1978 would be held on November 12.
Families of the martyrs have appealed to all the people to take part in offering tributes to the martyrs during the solemn function which would be held from 7 am to 4 pm.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, Phurailatpam Dimbeshwor, speaking on behalf of the victim families, said that the families, relatives and friends of the three martyrs have been observing November 12 as “Martyrs Day” and offering tributes to the martyrs every year.
With permission from the High Court of Manipur, a solemn function of offering tributes to the martyrs would be held this year too at their memorial located at Kameng Leimarok, Dimbeshwor said. Notably, a combined team of security forces surrounded a rebel camp at Kameng Leimarok on November 12, 1978 and launched a fierce offensive. PREPAK’s Ayekpam Dhiren, Phurailatpam Kabikanta and PLA’s Pukhrambam Gambhir were killed in the battle while three others–– Rajen Achouba, Radhakishore and Manaobi (Naobi) who sustained bullet injuries were apprehended.
