IMPHAL, Nov 8 : Manipur were 201/3 (after 65 overs) at stumps on Day 1 of the fourth Ranji Trophy Plate Group tie against Mizoram at Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium, Anand.
Khwairkpam Ulenyai, who hit his maiden First Class century in the previous match against Arunachal Pradesh, continued to impress with the bat as he took Manipur close to 200-mark before he was trapped lbw by Thankhuma for the third wicket on 90.
Ulenyai gave Manipur a promising start by forging an 80-run partnership with opening partner Yumnam Karnajit who was dismissed for 40 by Marema in the 18th over.
Incoming L Ronald had a short stay on the crease but assisted Ulenyai in completing his half century before he was caught and bowled by Marema for the second wicket. Ulenyai stood firm and took on the Mizoram bowlers to gathered another partnership of 83-runs with Md Al Bashid but he was sadly 10 runs short of completing his second century when Thankhuma undone him on 90 in the final delivery of the 60th over as the scoreboard read 195.
Al Bashid was unbeaten on 47 off 78 balls (5 fours and 1 six) with L Ajay 0 not out when the day was called after 65 overs.
