IMPHAL, Nov 8
Joining tens of thousands of displaced people and scores of civil society organisations, the Committee of Civil Societies Kangleipak (CCSK) and many organisations affiliated to it have raised strong objection against holding Manipur Sangai Festival this year.
Spending a huge amount of money in the name of promoting peace and tourism while ignoring the suffering of thousands of IDPs is a matter of grave concern, the CCSK said in a press release.
The Manipur Sangai Festival may benefit some entrepreneurs but it will not give bring any benefit to the IDPs nor will it bring a single moment of relief to the displaced families, it said.
On the other hand, no tangible step has been seen towards initiation of NRC process, eradication of poppy plantation and resettlement of IDPs, it said.
While conveniently ignoring the many complaints and appeals of IDPs, the Government has been working hard to hold Manipur Sangai Festival to portray a false image that peace and normalcy have returned in Manipur, the CCSK remarked.
Holding Manipur Sangai Festival in the present situation is anti-people.
As such, CCSK and all its affiliated organisations namely; United All Community Social Uplifter, All Manipur Youth Protection Committee, Kangleipak Progressive Farmer Associa- tion, User Connection Supportive Committee Kang- leipak, Kangleipak Women Welfare Association, Ching-Tam United Women Association, Ningol Yaipha Lamjing Association Kangleipak, Keithel Kanba Apunba Kangleipak and the Student Union of Kangleipak will stand in solidarity with the people against holding Manipur Sangai Festival this year, it said. The CCSK asserted that it is essential for the Government to sit together with IDPs and CSOs on what the Government can do and cannot regarding the protracted conflict.
