IMPHAL, Dec 1: BJP didn't ruin Manipur, but a few leaders who joined it from other parties, MLA Th Radheshya said even as he welcomed Congress leaders who have newly joined the BJP.
The BJP Heirok Mandal welcomed Congress leaders including former Zilla Parishad election candidate Moirangthem Rajmohon and Khundrakpam Amarjit of Heituppokpi.
During the Heirok BJP Mandal workers' conference and welcome ceremony, held at his residence at Heirok Thokchom Leikai, the MLA said the BJP is still strong in Manipur and it never stands against the State.
Apparently referring to the Manipur crisis that broke out on May 3, 2023, Radheshyam said the State was plunged into the crisis and dismantled by few leaders who joined the BJP from other parties.
"The BJP, as a party, has never been against Manipur. It was a few leaders who joined the BJP from other parties who ruined Manipur. Those who can't drive vehicles shouldn't blame it on the makers," Radheshyam said, hitting out at the "leaders" he didn't name.
The BJP, the MLA claimed, is still strong and it will win the 2027 elections.
"The fault is not with the BJP, but the people. In Heirok AC, there are also some who are pretending to be with the BJP but working for Congress," Radheshyam continued.
Welcoming the new members, Radheshyam said he expects many from the Congress will follow and join the BJP.
He said the people of the Heirok Assembly Constituency should work together and make collective effort for development of the region.
Moirangthem Rajmohon, one of the leaders who joined the BJP, said he worked for the Congress from 1972.
About leaving Congress and joining BJP, he said "change is inevitable to make progress".
"It was a little sad to leave Congress after so many years. But, a change is a must for development and progress of the society," he said.
