Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Ng Johnson’s unbeaten 75 in vain as Manipur suffer 29-run loss to Mizoram

IMPHAL, Nov 30 : Ngariyanbam Johnson’s unbeaten 75 went in vain as Manipur slumped to a 29-run loss to Mizoram today in the third match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Plate Group 2025-26 at MCA Cricket Stadium, Gahunje, Pune.
Mizoram elected to bat first and raised a respectable total of 186 runs for three wickets down riding on strong batting performances from Karthik CA 64 off 39 (7 fours, 2 sixes) Thankhuma 47 not out off 31 (1 four, 3 sixes), Jehu Anderson 31 off 16 (4 fours, 1 six) and KC Cariappa 19 not out off 15 (1 fours, 1 six).
Chasing 187 for the win, Manipur folded up at 157/7 in the allotted 20 overs despite Johnson’s 58-ball 75 not out (8 fours, 1 six) and Langlonyamba’s 20-ball 34 (2 fours, 2 sixes) as KC Cariappa (2/35), Nunfela (2/13), Karthik CA (1/24), Vanlal Remruata (1/35), and Sumit (1/24) produced frugal bowling performances.
For Manipur, Ch Bidash (1/41) and L Kishan Singha (1/36) picked a wicket apiece.
Manipur, however, continued to remain on top of the Plate Group table having scored two straight victories- 90-run victory against Arunachal Pradesh in the first match and a 25-run victory against Meghalaya in the second match.
Manipur will play Sikkim in the next match on December 2 at the same stadium.
