IMPHAL, Nov 30: The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has lined up a series of rally and sit-in-protest from tomorrow (December 1) so as to exert pressure on the Government to fulfil its assurance of resettling IDPs from peripheral areas at their homes within the month of December.
A decision to this effect was adopted at a public meeting held today at Uripok Achom Leikai.
A large number of IDPs coming from different places staged a protest demonstration in front of Kangla today before they held a meeting at Uripok Achom Leikai together with COCOMI, local clubs and Meira Paibis.
COCOMI convenor Khuraijam Athouba said that the Government of India including the Governor of Manipur gave assurances at different levels that all preparations have been completed for resettlement of IDPs from peripheral areas at their homes within the month of December.
“The month of December starts from tomorrow and we will start counting the days by staging rallies and sit-in-protest from tomorrow”, the COCOMI convenor said.
IDPs, COCOMI members, local clubs and Meira Paibis will stage rallies and sit-in-protests from tomorrow at a convenient place of Uripok area, Athouba said.
He also appealed to all sections of society including intellectuals to come and join the rally/sit-in-protest which will be staged throughout the month of December.
Continuing with the vehement protest launched since before the start of the Manipur Sangai Festival 2025, a large number of IDPs staged a protest demonstration in front of Kangla today, the last day of the festival forcibly organised by the Government, he said. After the protest demonstration, the IDPs, COCOMI, local clubs, Meira Paibis and people coming from different places held a meeting at Uripok Achom Leikai.
The meeting deliberated on the hardships being faced by IDPs. After listening to the IDPs, COCOMI adopted a decision to stage rallies/sit-in-protest throughout the month of December, Athouba said.
