Date at Delhi on December 14 Needed : Roadmap

The Sangai Express went with the term ‘Delhi calls MLAs’ rather than ‘Delhi summons MLAs’ for reasons which must be clear to readers who are accustomed to reading beyond the obvious. And so it is that a number of BJP MLAs have already reached Delhi, some are on their way while others will be queuing up to fly to the National capital to be on time for the December 14 date. The call has been issued not by Union Home Minister Amit Shah but by BJP National president JP Nadda and all BJP MLAs cutting across community lines have been extended the ‘invite’ to come. Queuing up for Delhi, but not unexpectedly and not surprisingly, no one seems to know why the BJP MLAs have been called to Delhi, but the air is already thick with talks of the possibility of the invite revolving around the return of a popular Government. This is at least what one could learn from what ex-Chief Minister N Biren said while interacting with the media on December 12 on the occasion of Nupi Lan. If the call to Delhi does revolve around the issue of reinstating the popularly elected Government, then this would certainly go a long way in addressing the line of thought that the PR regime should go now to pave the way for the return of a popular Government. This can also be seen as an extension of the Delhi trip that a number of BJP MLAs undertook on the call to reinstate the popularly elected Government sometime in October this year. Numberwise the BJP continues to sit comfortably in the House of 60 with only the Congress with five MLAs sitting on the Opposition bench and what is needed is nothing more than a nod from the Centre to go ahead with Government formation. And obviously Government formation would entail who would be named to occupy the hot chair and the 10 months of PR would have given more than enough time to the Centre to work out who is best suited to lead the Government. How this pans out is yet to be known but this is the reality and it is against this that talk of the return of a popular Government is gaining ground, with even the former Chief Minister openly stating that the Delhi meet of December 14 may centre around the question of Government formation. It is against this background that the BJP MLAs have started reaching Delhi with more on their way and come December 14, Manipur will surely have some news on the meeting. Or would it get reduced to an exercise of the media persons bending backwards to get in touch with their contacts who are in Delhi to get the correct information ? Or better still, would it be a case of the Imphal media having to rely on the different news agencies to carry a report concerning Manipur ? December 14 will have the answer.
Call for the return of a popular Government is not new, it has been there for sometime, especially from amongst the BJP MLAs, but there is still no answer to the all important question-Have the BJP MLAs met, discussed, brainstormed and shared ideas on how best to tackle the situation in Manipur ? Will the return of a popular Government in any way help take Manipur to the understanding of normalcy ? Has any of the MLAs ever given this a thought ? A thought on sharing ideas and views ? This is also perhaps the right time to question why none of the BJP MLAs have publicly acknowledged the visit of fellow MLA Yumnam Khemchand to a relief centre set up for Kuki IDPs at Litan some time back ? Have the MLAs met to see if things can be taken further from the visit to the Kuki relief camp ? These are questions which Manipur should raise now. Who is made the next Chief Minister would not have much bearing on Manipur, but what will and can have an impact is what efforts can be made to ensure that the IDPs can safely return home. And this cuts both ways, meaning the Kuki-Chin-Zo people who have left their homes in Imphal and the other valley areas and the Meitei IDPs in different relief centres. Has any of the BJP MLAs given a thought on sharing ideas and suggestions so that the benefits percolate to everyone in Manipur ? Only the MLAs can answer these questions, but it is important to raise such questions for this is about Manipur. All eyes are on Delhi and the scheduled December 14 date there and one hopes it results in something positive for Manipur.
