IMPHAL, Dec 14 : United People's Front (UPF), Manipur president N Rupachandra has said that the present generation of Manipuris hasn't learnt anything from the past mistakes and continues to suppress one another.
He made the statement during a discussion programme held as part of the National Reconsolidation Month at Manipur Press Club at Majorkhul today.
The discussion programme held under the theme "National Reconsolidation Month" was attended by  Vice Chancellor of Khongnangthaba University Prof Naorem Joykumar, Asst Prof Dr Malem  Ningthouja of DM University (Dept of History) and Asst Prof Dr Syed Ahmed of DM University (Dept of History) among others.
At the event, Rupachandra continued that there is not even moral or emotional solidarity among Manipuris, let alone standing together as one to fight for a united Manipur.
The present generation has not learned anything from the historical mistakes that occurred in Manipur, he reiterated.
Saying that external forces are also at play to create disunity among the indigenous people of Manipur, he added that identifying the common foe is essential to building a stronger Manipur.
The people of Manipur, regardless of their communities, must decide the future of the State, he said and called for unity and harmony among the Manipuris.
UPF is prepared to organise several programmes to foster unity among Manipuris by collaborating with different communities, he said and added that they will conduct workshops, seminars etc under Campaign for the Protection and Promotion of Manipuri National Identity.
He also said that they will conduct various events such as street corner  meetings, public meetings, poster campaigns, two wheeler rally, unveiling of statues/busts for  bravehearts etc as part of National Reconciliation Month in States where Manipuris reside, such as Assam, Meghalaya, and Tripura, in addition to Manipur.
The month-long programme will conclude with a public meeting at the memorial complex of Maharaja Ghambhir Singh, Nara Singh, and Herachandra at Langthabal on January 9, he said.
