IMPHAL, Dec 16 : Anouba Imagi Mangal (AIM), Khabam defeated All Moirang Football Association (AMOFA), Moirang by 6-3 goals for the 9th win in 13 matches to regain second place in the ongoing 3rd Premier League behind runaway leaders SSU, Singjamei.
Off from a 2-0 win over ABA, AIM carried forward the momentum and entered into the break with a 1-0 lead thanks to Nongthomgbam Nenaldo’s second minute strike at SSC ground, Sekta this afternoon.
AMOFA however made a brilliant return into the second half and overturned the lead with Konjengbam Newton Singh and Moirangthem Somokanta Singh scoring a goal apiece in the 47th and the 54th minutes.
AIM settled back and read the resurgent AMOFA carefully before Moirangthem Basanta scored the equaliser and kept the competition open yet again.
AMOFA also fought back and retained the lead through Ningthoujam Dhanabir in the 78th minute but AIM did not lose hope and it was Basanta who put the team back with another equaliser in the 80th minute before Khangembam Shitaljit Meitei devastated AMOFA defence with a hattrick (81', 87', 90+2') and set up the 6-3 win.
Earlier in the day, Themchui Rs’ double went in vain as ASUFII FA pulled off a 3-2 win against Sagolband United (SU).
ASUFII FA had a flourishing start and led the first half 3-0 thanks to goals coming from Mathanmi Ningshen (26'), L Nyamnyei (34') and Ngararshing Raikhan (36').
ASUFII FA however looked content with the huge lead after the restart but hardworking Sagolband United managed to pull back a goal through star player Themchui Rs in the 52nd minute.
ASUFII FA remained calm in the face of the SU’s attempt to reduce the margin by concentrating more in defence and making attacks occasionally.
SU’s relentless effort paid off as Themchui Rs scored another late in the 84th minute but their efforts fell short as ASUFII FA managed to withstand late pressure and hold on to their lead till the final whistle.
