IMPHAL, Dec 17: Imagi Meira has strongly condemned yesterday's attack by Kuki militants on civilians at Torbung and Phougakchao, and demanded the Governor to produce a white paper on "surrender of weapons in the hills and the valley."
Speaking to reporters at Manipur Press Club, Imphal today, Imagi Meira convenor, Thokchom Sujata said the attack exposed the Government's failure in dealing with the Kuki militants.
Explosives, bombs were used in the attack yesterday night. This means, the Kuki militants still have weapons despite the Governor's call for surrender of weapons, she said.
While weapons have been recovered from the valley, the Government seems to have failed to do the same in the hills, Sujata asserted.
She said the Governor must produce a white paper on the surrender of weapons within 5 days.
On the other hand, the attack also points to lapses in security measures, Sujata said.
The attack occurred on the day of the return of the IDPs to their original homes. The return and resettlement of the IDPs was carried out with the knowledge and permission of the Deputy Commissioner, she added.
Sujata further called out MLAs for not speaking up against the attack.
No MLAs have condemned the attack. They aren't seen meeting the Governor on the issue, she said. If the MLAs aren't aware of their responsibility, they must tender their resignation, she said.
