IMPHAL, Dec 17 : Manipur were 244/8 (73 overs) at stumps on Day 2 after restricting Nagaland to 273 in the first innings of the fifth Cooch Behar Trophy Plate tie at Gokulbhai Somabhai Patel Stadium in Nadiad.
Md Danish (4/84 in 24 overs) led the bowling attack for Manipur and returned with a haul of 4 wickets as Nagaland won the toss and elected to bat first yesterday.
Yumnam Chingkheinganba (2/48), Naesh (1/29), Kaiku (1/16), and Sougaijam Robinson (1/2) meanwhile shared 5 wickets among them in the Nagaland’s first innings that saw Aloto Sumi 55 off 169, Vizoletuo Zhale 44 off 98, Samir Ali 39 off 64, and Darsh Choudhary 29 not out off 69 making most of the runs.
After the innings break, Manipur had a slow start and slumped to 70/3 within 18.4 overs despite Th Lucky’s fighting 45 off 59 as Vizoletuo Zhale, Thupuluzo and Samir Ali shared a wicket apiece.
Manipur further slipped 146/6 as Aloto Sumi struck three wickets in rapid fire fashion before Lanchenba and Ali Karim provided a brief relief by gathering 70 off 137 balls for the 7th wicket until Aloto Sumi got rid of Ali Karim on 68 off 118.
Aloto Sumi also undone Lanchenba on 42 off 104 for the 8th wicket as the scoreboard read 240.
Naesh 15 not out and Yumnam Chingkheinganba 0 not out were batting as Manipur closed out the day at 244/8 and trail behind Nagaland by 29 runs.
