Veronica seals title win for AR Polo Team in 2nd DGAR Polo C’ship

IMPHAL, Dec 17 : Veronica scored the winner as AR Polo Team beat Chingkheihunba Polo Club in a 13-goal final thriller of the 2nd DGAR Women’s Polo Championship this afternoon at Mapal Kangjeibung.
Defending champions Assam Rifles Polo Team were quick off the blocks as M Enourembi found the opener barely into a minute of the opening chukker before N Laxmi scored back to back in the 3rd and the 7th minutes to earn a 3-0 advantage for the team.
AR Polo Team further enjoyed a 5-2 lead after two chukers as H Pitu and Enourembi further added to their tally against a goal apiece scored by Th Tanna and M Priya for Chingkheihunba Polo Club.
Star of the day Veronica the scored her first in the third chukker that saw Chingkheihunba PC’s Th Tanna scoring twice to make it 4-6 before RK Nellu and Th Tanna scored a goal apiece in the fourth chukker to draw level as AR Polo Team drew blank.
The game was extended to the fifth chukker but neither team were on target before Veronica scored the golden goal 39 seconds into the 6th chukker and sealed the dramatic 7-6 win.
As many as 5 women’s teams participated in the tournament organised by the Assam Rifles in collaboration with the All Manipur Polo Association.
