X Polo Club break Black Watch to win 2nd DGAR Men's Polo title

IMPHAL, Dec 18: X Polo Club Wangkhei won the 2nd DGAR Men Polo Championship title at Mapal Kangjeibung Polo Ground today.
X Polo Club etched its name on the winner’s title by defeating Black Watch Polo Club Babupara 5-4.
For the win, Th Jacob and Th Santosh scored 2 goals each for X Polo Club. P Ojit scored one.
For Black Watch Polo Club, M Chaoba scored 2 goals, L Rohit and Th Nongpoknganba scored one each.
X Polo Club's L Atangba was declared the best player.
Notably, the women’s final on December 17 saw Assam Rifles Polo Team defeating Chingkheihunba Polo Club 7-6 to win the women's title.
Naoroibam Laxmi Devi, captain of the Assam Rifles Women's Polo team was declared the best player.
Manipur Police Sports Club (women) and Assam Rifles Polo Team (Men) were named the best disciplined teams.
Dumba, an 8-year-old gelding pony, was named the best pony in women's polo.
Paona (male, 5 years) was named the best pony in the men's polo.
The 2nd DGAR Men and Women Polo Tournament 2025 was organised by the Assam Rifles under its Civic Action Programme (CAP) in collaboration with the All Manipur Polo Association (AMPA).
The closing ceremony was graced by Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla as the chief guest, alongside Lt Gen Vikas Lakera, Director General Assam Rifles (DGAR), in the presence of senior civil dignitaries and military officials.
The championship witnessed enthusiastic participation from 38 teams, comprising 33 men’s teams and 5 women’s teams and featured a total of 44 scheduled matches.
The tournament drew large and diverse audiences throughout its duration from all age groups, including NCC cadets, school children and sports enthusiasts, reflecting the deep-rooted connection of polo with the people of Manipur and the public support for indigenous sports.
The Governor formally commenced the men’s final by rolling the ball, marking the ceremonial start of the title clash.
The programme also included felicitation of veteran polo players, recognizing their lifelong contributions to the preservation of Sagol Kangjei. A vibrant cultural programme presented by the Rhythm Team further enriched the event, showcasing Manipur’s artistic traditions.
