IMPHAL, Dec 1 : Oinam Bharati and Huidrom Malemyaima won Manipur a gold medal at the 8th Inter State Challender Rowing and 45th Junior National Rowing Championship that was held from November 26 to 30 at Upper Lake, Bhopal.
Bharati and Malemyaima combined well to fetch the gold medal in the junior women’s double sculls competition with a time of 8 minutes and 14.5 seconds.
Shivrani Kateria and Arushi Barar of Maharashtra finished second in 8 minutes and 24.1 seconds to settle for the silver medal as Madhya Pradesh’s pair of Vanshika Sahu and Priyanka bagged the bronze medal by finishing third in 8 minutes and 29.2 seconds.
Kerala’s Angel Mary Thomas and Haripriya Vinesh clocked 8:38.9 to finish fourth in the competition.
Huidrom Malemyaima is the daughter of Huidrom Dilipkumar and Huidrom Bijeta Leima of Wabagai Lamkhai while Oinam Bharati is the daughter of Oinam Raju and Oinam Memma of Thanga Ngaram Leikai.
Notably, Oinam Bharati, Huidrom Malemyaima and two other State rowers- Thangjam Priya and Haobijam Tendenthoi have been selected for the National trial ahead of the 2026 Asian Games.
Haobijam Tendenthoi and Huidrom Malemyaima have also been selected to attend a special training to be conducted in Australia as a part of the National Coaching Camp.
